A Stupid Question
As far as I can tell, this must be a stupid question. I need an answer.
It appears that the government shutdown somehow stops American servicemen and women from being paid for their service. If you are in the military, your pay depends on the approval of the entire federal budget by the U.S. Congress.
Somewhere deep in the back of my mind I seem to recall Donald Trump saying while on the campaign trail that the way Congress packages all the spending together needs to change, that it needs to be broken into separate bills so that popular or essential expenses aren't held hostage by congress people demanding pork barrel expenditures.
So my question is this:
Why won't the Republicans and the Democrats vote to fund military salaries separately from all the pork barrel spending? Why won't Republicans in the House pass a separate bill to do that? It's clear at this point that the Democrats are holding military service members hostage, but aren't the Republicans doing the same thing by refusing to fund military salaries separate from this bill that Senate Democrats refuse to vote for?
I know this must be a stupid question but what is there about Congress that makes this question so stupid that nobody even mentions it, not even the media?
I know that Donald Trump reads this blog, so I just had to throw this out there.
