What Real Donald Trump?
Anybody who has followed my journal here should know that I have been a supporter of Donald Trump from way back in 2016 when he first ran for President. My support wasn't shaken when the Biden-era Department of Justice became politically weaponized against Trump after the Democrats rigged the 2020 election giving Biden the victory and putting Democrats in power. But last summer my faith in Trump was shattered by his reaction to his own allies who pushed for truth and transparency with respect to the "Epstein files". I thought the truth was what mattered to Trump until that controversy exploded.
Here's a good summary by satirist and comedian YouTuber JP of how I reacted and why:
MTG Spills Secrets about Trump (He Doesn't Want You to Hear This!)
The issue here is whether a politician's past, his or her moral background, should have an impact on whether "we the people" allow them to be our leaders. After hearing what Marjory Taylor Green said about how Trump handled her support for truth and transparency about the moral background of influential men, Trump in particular and his "friends", I stand with JP.
Yes, I respect the fact that Trump's background and who he has chummed around with shouldn't impact my judgment about Trump's positions concerning the nation's economy or its defense. I shouldn't let my own judgment and suspicion cause me to impede progress. I shouldn't use it as an excuse to sabotage the nation's future. I'm not inclined to think like a Democrat about this. I shouldn't use this as a political excuse to champion progressivism or socialism or Marxism the way the Democrats are doing.
But it sure did and still does shatter my faith in Trump's moral character. That's the bottom line.
That said, Maine's senior senator in the US Senate is up for reelection this year and her Democrat opponent will likely be a man whose past highly offensive moral character is being ignored by the Democrats and by many Republicans as well, the idea being that people change, that a person's past does not dictate and should not reflect on that person's current character. This Democrat is, in my mind at least, a gruff alpha male war-damaged mansplaining manspreading insult to the Democrat Party and to American politics in general who has personally stated his goal, should he win against Senator Collins, will be to throw a monkey wrench into everything related to Trump, his entire administration, and the Republicans in general in Washing DC.
And the Democrats support this 100%. Forgive everything Platner has ever said or done that might be offensive but for God's sake don't forgive Donald Trump for anything you suspect or hatefully hope he once did or was.
Platner and his supporters have every right to be offended by Trump and his past, but nobody has the right to be offended by Platner's past. The hypocrisy is mind-shattering to me.
