Politicizing COVID-19
India, at the time of this writing, is reporting 887 cases of COVID-19. Worldwide the number of cases stands at 597, 072. These figures are from the Johns Hopkins interactive COVID-19 map that I linked to in my previous post.
From these figures it would appear that India's confirmed cases amounts to 0.15% of the world's total, fifteen one hundredths of one percent.
With that figure in mind, read this article in The Atlantic predicting impending doom and gloom and scolding about government delay and mishandling of the pandemic:
The Callousness of India’s COVID-19 Response (I didn't find a current date on the article but assume the article was current as of today)
Did you find any advice in that article for the people of India? Did you find advice on, let's say, how to feed the people or what kinds of foods are healthy and what foods might lead to vulnerability to the disease? Did you find anything on what vitamins or herbs or alternative medicines might help the people bolster their immune systems? I didn't.
Did you find disdain for alternative medicines? I did - "homeopathic prophylactic treatment".
The media isn't trying to help anybody. The media is promoting only one thing. In the name of "science" the media is pushing for totalitarian, authoritarian socialism - government control. This one article should make that fact crystal clear.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not downplaying the significance of COVID-19. Nobody knows how many people will die from this new disease. Nobody knows how to stop it. Nobody knows if China has actually stopped it. We all know that nobody else has stopped it. We know what China has told us but nobody knows if that is the truth. China doesn't exactly have a reputation for trustworthiness and they don't seem to care to use this opportunity to repair their bad reputation. So nobody knows anything yet. But people around the world do know how people can eat healthy and use over-the-counter products to strengthen their immune system. Nobody in the media is spreading that information, though. Instead, they are spreading panic and spreading the false claim that government control is the only hope.
